This sign is all about making sure you stay safe while outdoors!

Safety is an important factor when you are in outside spaces: Here are a few things to watch out for while you are enjoying your walk through the park.

Ticks:

Ticks are small insects that can carry harmful diseases, such as Lyme disease, Tularemia, and Babesiosis. They transmit these diseases through pathogens that occur through feeding.

When you are walking through the park be sure to wear long socks, preferably light colored clothing, as darker colored clothing can make ticks harder to see.

  • It’s important to check yourself for ticks after you are done going for a walk.
  • If you happen to find one on you don’t panic. You can just calmly remove it instantly.

    Poison Ivy:

    Poison Ivy is mainly known by its three leaves and vine.

    It mainly grows it’s leaves in clusters of three, although some varieties grow in five to seven leaves per cluster,It’s colors can also vary: from red, orange to green.

    There is a saying that says: “If it grows in threes leave it be”.

    This is a common phrase to help people remember that three pointed leaves should be left alone.

    • If you accidentally come into contact with this poisonous plant, be sure to wash your hands instantly if you know you have a sensitivity to it.
    • Washing your hands will reduce your chances of getting poison Ivy that shows up in an itchy rash.
    • To avoid exposure to this poisonous plant: wear long pants as recommended, as well as long socks and boots.
    • If you have to handle the poison Ivy, handle it with gloves, and take care that you  wash and clean your gloves or any clothing that comes in contact while handling it.

    Needles:

    If you find a needle on your walk contact the non-emergency Police number for your Ward Precinct. Mark it with caution and alert the correct Authorities.

    Don’t try to dispose of it yourself, think SMART and use CAUTION.

    Do not try to pick it up yourself, this could lead to Disease exposures,such as Human immunodeficiency, virus HIV, hepatitis B HBV. It is not worth the Risk of getting pricked trying to dispose of it yourself.

    COVID 19:

    • Practice social distancing wherever possible
    • Wear a mask and or face shield, especially if you are not vaccinated
    • Carry and use hand sanitizer regularly
    • Clean and sanitize tools after using them to prevent the spread of the virus.

    DO NOT THROW YOUR MASK ON THE GROUND!!!

    • After you use a reusable mask wash it in the washer and dryer to keep it clean.
    • If your mask is not Fabric and it is disposable then dispose of it properly.
    • If you feel sick please stay home and get better.

    If you come down with symptoms of Covid 19 such as the following: Fever, chills, cough, body ache, headache, sore throat, loss of taste and smell, and trouble breathing, please get tested at a local testing site located near you.
