Part-Time Positions
Green Team Member
Groundwork Southcoast (GWSC) is an environmental justice organization. We work at the intersection of environment and community by investing in youth and young adults. We do so by focusing on developing environmental justice resident leadership through workforce development, stewardship, and engagement. The Groundwork Southcoast Green Team (GT) is a year-round employment program offering part-time, paid positions for youth in New Bedford and Fall River. Green Team runs in both summer and school year, members will work 9 hours per week during the school year. Green Team members will support GWSC’s mission through hands-on environmental stewardship, develop leadership skills, and engage with the community to promote environmental justice.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership (40% of time):
- Participate in leadership development sessions focused on environmental and racial justice literacy, systemic change, project management, and career readiness.
- Act as ambassadors for Groundwork Southcoast, promoting healthy lifestyles and environmental responsibility.
- Engage in public speaking, both live and through various media (video, audio, etc.), to represent the Green Team and its mission.
- Collaborate with peers to plan and execute Legacy Projects, which include project creation, analysis, budgeting, presentation, and implementation.
Stewardship (20% of time):
- Contribute to the maintenance and improvement of community green spaces, urban trails, and food access sites.
- Perform tasks such as planting, trail maintenance, trash pickup, and other hands-on environmental work.
- Ensure that work sites are kept safe, clean, and presentable for public use.
Community Engagement (40% of time):
- Engage with community members to raise awareness about environmental issues and the work of the Green Team.
- Participate in outreach activities, including canvassing, recruitment, and event planning.
- Support the organization’s community engagement efforts by working closely with GWSC’s Community Engagement staff.
Qualifications:
- Interest in environmental justice and a commitment to making a positive impact in your community.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Willingness to learn and develop new skills in leadership, environmental stewardship, and community engagement.
- Comfort working in a team environment and participating in public speaking.
- Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks efficiently and safely.
- Strong communication skills and a positive attitude.
Compensation: Hourly rate of $15. This is a grant funded position reporting to the Green Team Coordinator in Training. This is a non-exempt, part-time position requiring some evening and weekend hours, and very occasional overnights (we spend one week with youth at a National Park and/or 5-9 days at a National Summit each year).
