Part-Time Positions
Green Team Leader
Compensation & Benefits:
- Salary: $18.50 – $20.00 per hour
- Position Type: Part-time. If the chosen candidate desires to enter into training to eventually become full-time, that is an option that will be considered in fall of 2025.

About Groundwork Southcoast:
(GWSC) is an environmental justice (EJ) organization focused on investing in the leadership of youth and adult residents from EJ communities in Fall River and New Bedford through leadership development, workforce programs, and environmental stewardship. We prioritize community-driven action that addresses issues of environmental, racial, and social justice and equity.
Position Summary:
The Green Team is an established team of high school youth employees focused on high-quality workforce, engagement, and environmental outcomes in Fall River and New Bedford. 11 Green Team members work 9-12 hours a week during the school year 3:30 pm – 6:30 pm Tuesdays-Thursdays. During the summer this increases to 15hrs a week for 6 weeks and will likely be 9:00 am-2:00 pm Tuesdays-Thursdays. We are seeking 1 Leader to lead this team who is over 21 and has had a driver’s license for at least 6mo., a clean driving record, CORI, and SORI, and able to work 15-20 hrs- a week part-time in the school year and 20-29hrs a week in summer to start.
The Green Team will be the lead workforce team on our engagement efforts as well as providing vital leadership and environmental resilience support work to foster learning and leadership development.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership, Communications, Citizen Science, and Engagement (75% of youth time) and Stewardship (25% of youth time) (70% of Coordinator- In- Training time):
- Ensure the sustainability of Green Team:
- Lead 3 Green Team employment programs a year in multiple locations: Summer, School Year I, and School Year II including following daily and weekly session plans created by the Programs Coordinator
- Assisting with hiring and assessing youth, and working with other staff to recruit to sustain a full roster of youth employees at the start of each program and develop a waiting list
- Ensure that all Green Team members are following the expectations in the handbook and any non-compliance results in cards being removed
- Ensure that Green Team timesheets are completed weekly
- Assist with ensuring that Green Team members are exposed to the spectrum of environmental careers
- Ensure that all workspaces are cleaned at the end of each Green Team workday and that inventory maintained
Groundwork Southcoast Coordination (30%):
- Attend all required staff meetings, meetings with supervisor, and staff training, workshops, and retreats
- Use planning and prep time; weekly: to review session plans and prepare for daily activities and breaks between Green Team programs to: support the coordinator to evaluate and further develop all training/ curriculum needed to equip Green Team to be successful in environmental career exploration, leadership development/ career readiness, and proper stewardship methods
- Complete all electronic timesheets, Tracking, and Daily Tasks: input to CRM, photos, videos, leadership measures, and timesheets are submitted digitally.
- Center and foster racial, social, and environmental equity and justice in all aspects of our work
- Be a part of growing our organization including being willing to do other duties as needed

- Living in/ or having experience in environmental justice neighborhoods, especially the North End of New Bedford
- Comfortable engaging with and connecting to people including youth and visitors to our public stewardship spaces
- Speaking English and a second language Spanish/Portuguese/Cape Verdean Creole/ K’iche preferred
- Familiar with growing food, landscaping, and trail maintenance
- Comfortable with working outside year-round and lifting more than 40lbs repeatedly
- Want to work at an organization that will invest in your leadership and give you the opportunity to do the same for youth
- Have or are willing to learn basic hardware and software skills: ClickTime, Google Docs and sheets, Zoom, logging work, and recording of videos and photos for documentation
- Ideally an Alumni of Groundwork Southcoast’s Green Team and a former Crew Leader; or other team-leading experience
- Must have a valid driver’s license, safe driving record, and ability to drive youth preferred; acceptable CORI & SORI required
