SIGN # 3:
Welcome to Adventure Walk!

This sign is all about our Green Team run Urban Community Garden!

WELCOME TO OUR Urban Farm and Community Garden

Farm History

The farm was a public raised garden that was eventually abandoned. Groundwork Southcoast saw an opportunity to take over and maintain the raised beds as our Farm.

The youth that were hired on the Organizations Green Team Program (link this page) brought up a community issue we could address by using the beds. This was Food Insecurity in low income families in the Acushnet Ave community of New Bedford.

At our farm we grow culturally and seasonally relevant fruits and vegetables. Green team cares for all the raised beds and the plants (growing them from seeds). The team harvests the produce and promotes organic foods to be sold at a low price.

Expanding the Farm

We have been trying to gather funds to expand the farm knowing the demand for food access.. The goal in expanding the farm is to engage the community by creating a green wall (vertical food growing) with fencing that people can walk up to and pick a variety of herbs and vegetables.

We also have been utilizing the farm as an educational lab space. Where we teach young people about agriculture. This means, weeding, how to identify different plants, pollination and harvesting.
